Miriam had no choice but to drop out of her final year of high school when she found out she was pregnant. Months later Miriam gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Isaiah. However, Isaiah was not the son that Miriam expected God to give her; he was born with cerebral palsy. The father to Isaiah quickly disowned both his son and Miriam when he saw that Isaiah had special needs. Miriam knew she was on her own to provide and care for her son, and she would do whatever it took to ensure Isaiah received what he needed.
God led Miriam to Good Shepherd’s Fold where she received supplies and physical therapy for Isaiah through the infant feeding program. Although the supplies and therapy helped, Isaiah had greater needs and Miriam needed a source of income. Miriam started cleaning for GSF a few days a week. Recognizing Miriam’s dedication and hard work, the GSF social worker offered Miriam a spot in the Good Shepherd’s Fold Tailoring Program where she could learn how to sew and assist with the tailoring needs of the ministry. Miriam jumped at the opportunity and, during her time working at the tailoring shop, attended the weekly staff devotions at GSF. It was during devotions one day that God opened Miriam’s heart to the truth of the Gospel, and she gave her life to Jesus Christ.
In January, Miriam graduated from the tailoring program and accepted a job at the GSF Baby House where she works as a caregiver to the babies in residence. Miriam’s love for children and excellence in every task is a gift from God that we are all continuing to learn from as we serve alongside Miriam.
